This photo is quite sinister. The light illuminates his hat and his mouth/nose. Even though the whole photo is dark, you can see the shading over the eyes from the shadow of his hat. This gives quite a dark, almost gambler feel to it. Almost like an American in the 1930's or something. I like this picture because it isn't meaningless but at the same time it doesn't require a lot of mind work to appreciate it. Some people could interpret it with a story and others could just see it as a man but either way, it looks good.

Here the light is a form of disguise, especially when paired with the hat which forms shadows over his face.
